General Description

It is a colorless, volatile liquid of pleasant color. Slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents. It is obtained by gentle hydrogenation of mesityl oxide. Its combustion can produce toxic materials. 
Applications: Solvent for paints, varnishes, nitrocellulose lacquers. It is used in extraction processes, organic synthesis, methyl amyl alcohol manufacture and as an alcohol denaturant.
