General Description

A clear colorless liquid with a characteristic aromatic odor consisting of a mixture of the three isomers (ortho-, meta- and para-). 
The latter two predominate. Less dense than water and insoluble in water. Hence floats on water. 
May be toxic by ingestion. Vapors heavier than air and may be narcotic in high concentrations.

Uses: Solvent for paints and coatings, rubbers, resins, most oils, rubber, vinyl, organosols; diluent and thinner in nitrocellulose lacquers; diluent in polyurethane resins, (detergents), and cosmetics. Used as reaction medium in polymerizations.
In the laboratory as a solvent in chemical synthesis.
Used as a solvent for the metal-mechanical industry, coatings and in the manufacture of
adhesives and sealants.
